About the radio station
Boom Radio is an independent UK commercial radio station aimed at the Baby Boomer generation and operated by Boom Radio Ltd. It launched on 14 February 2021 and broadcasts nationally on DAB+ as well as online and via smart speakers.
Boom is regulated by Ofcom, and it’s built around a presenter-first approach, with programmes originating from presenters’ own homes rather than from a central studio.
Unlike many long-established stations, Boom is not available on AM or FM, so you find it by name on DAB+ or by asking a smart speaker to play it. Boom also operates two sister stations, Boom Light and Boom Rock, offering alternative flavours of the wider Boom sound.
Programming & Music
Boom Radio leans heavily into music from the 1960s and 1970s, while also sprinkling in some 1950s easy listening and a small amount of newer material.
A signature part of the format is the idea of adding roughly one new or recent song an hour to keep things fresh while still fitting the overall feel.
