About the radio station
BBC Radio Wales is the BBC’s national English language radio station for Wales, operated by BBC Cymru Wales. It began broadcasting on 13 November 1978, replacing the Welsh opt-out service of BBC Radio 4.
The station is available across Wales on FM and DAB digital radio, and it has also broadcast on 882 kHz medium wave. Listeners can also tune in via BBC Sounds, and it is carried on digital TV platforms, including Freeview in Wales, plus UK wide availability on satellite and cable services such as Freesat, Sky and Virgin Media.
Alongside its core output, BBC Radio Wales is regulated by Ofcom under the BBC’s broadcasting arrangements and sits alongside sister service BBC Radio Cymru, which broadcasts in Welsh.
